ESIC Registration — Process and Documents

ESI registration is done online and results in a 17-digit employer code used for all contributions and returns.

Steps

  1. 1Sign up as an employer on the ESIC portal or through Shram Suvidha.
  2. 2Complete the employer registration form with unit, ownership, banking and employee details.
  3. 3Submit and receive the 17-digit employer code and registration letter.
  4. 4Register each covered employee and obtain insurance numbers.
  5. 5Issue e-Pehchan cards and inform employees of their dispensary.
  6. 6Pay the first monthly contribution from the date coverage began.

Documents required

  • Registration certificate — incorporation, partnership deed, or factory/shops licence
  • PAN of the establishment and of the employer
  • Address proof of the premises
  • Cancelled cheque and bank details
  • List of directors, partners or proprietor with ID proof
  • List of employees with date of joining, wages and Aadhaar
  • Date on which the coverage threshold was first crossed
