Shops and Establishment Registration — Documents and Process
The document set is short, but mismatched address proof is the most common reason applications are returned.
Documents
- PAN and identity proof of the proprietor, partners or directors
- Certificate of incorporation, partnership deed or proprietorship proof
- Address proof of the premises — rent agreement or ownership document with utility bill
- Trade licence, where already obtained
- Details of employees and date of commencement of business
- Photograph of the premises with signage in some states
Amendment and closure
- Notify a change in name, address, ownership or nature of business within the prescribed period.
- File closure intimation when an establishment shuts, otherwise renewal liability continues.
Frequently asked questions
- What is the most common reason for rejection?
- Premises address proof that does not match the address stated in the application or in the trade licence.
- Must closure be intimated?
- Yes. Without a closure filing, the registration remains live and can attract renewal demands.
