DSC / Digital Signature Certificate Services in Kolkata

Class 3 Digital Signature Certificates for individuals, directors, organisations and e-tendering — issued, installed and renewed.

DSC / Digital Signature Services for Kolkata employers

A Digital Signature Certificate is the electronic equivalent of a handwritten signature, issued by a Certifying Authority licensed under the Information Technology Act, 2000. It binds an identity to a cryptographic key pair stored on a secure USB token, and a document signed with it carries legal validity. Since the migration of Indian statutory filing to online portals, a DSC is no longer an optional convenience — it is the access key to EPFO's employer portal, ESIC, MCA filings, income tax and TDS, GST, ICEGATE, e-tendering portals and the Shram Suvidha system.

Certificate classes were consolidated some years ago, and Class 3 is now the standard for practically every use case. Within Class 3 there are two variants: a Signing certificate, used to sign documents and returns, and an Encryption certificate, used to decrypt bids in e-tendering. A combination certificate provides both, which is what contractors and vendors bidding on government tenders normally require. Certificates are typically issued with validity of one, two or three years, and organisational certificates additionally attest the holder's designation within a named entity.

The issuance process is now fully paperless in most cases. Identity is verified through Aadhaar-based eKYC or PAN-based verification, followed by a short video verification and a mobile and email OTP. Once approved, the certificate is downloaded onto an FIPS-compliant USB token, which cannot be duplicated. For organisational certificates, an authorisation letter and entity documents are required in addition to the individual's KYC.

SafePoint arranges Class 3 DSCs for proprietors, partners, directors, authorised signatories and organisations, usually within a day of clean documentation, and handles the parts that most people find awkward — token supply, driver installation, browser and Java configuration for portals that still require it, registration of the DSC on the EPFO, ESIC and MCA portals, and renewal before expiry. Because we run PF, ESI, professional tax and factory filings for clients ourselves, we know exactly which portal expects which variant, and we configure it accordingly.

Key points to know

Choose the right variant

Signing certificates cannot decrypt tender bids. Contractors on e-tender portals generally need the combination certificate.

The token cannot be duplicated

A lost token means a fresh certificate; keep the token secure and the password recorded safely.

Renew before expiry

A lapsed DSC blocks EPFO ECR filing and MCA submissions until a new certificate is issued and re-registered.

Portal registration is a separate step

Holding a DSC is not enough; it must be registered against the signatory on each portal before it can be used.

Details must match your records

Name and PAN on the certificate must match the signatory details on the portal, or authentication fails.

Frequently asked questions

What is a Class 3 DSC used for?

Class 3 is the standard certificate for statutory and commercial e-filing — EPFO, ESIC, MCA, income tax, GST, ICEGATE and government e-tendering portals.

How quickly can a DSC be issued in Kolkata?

With PAN, Aadhaar, a photograph and an active mobile and email, paperless issuance is usually completed within a day of successful video verification.

What is the difference between signing and encryption certificates?

A signing certificate authenticates and signs documents. An encryption certificate is used to decrypt data such as tender bids. A combination certificate provides both and is typical for e-tendering.

How long is a DSC valid?

Certificates are commonly issued with one, two or three year validity. Renewal should be initiated before expiry to avoid interruption in filings.

Do we need a separate DSC for each director?

Yes. A DSC is tied to an individual. Each director or authorised signatory who signs filings needs their own certificate.

Can you register the DSC on the EPFO portal for us?

Yes. We install the token, configure the browser and complete the digital signature registration for the authorised signatory on the EPFO and ESIC portals.
